Geocache Description:

On the eastern slopes of the mountain "Vrachonas" there is the ancient settlement of polyneri, which controls the valley Plataria. The position is strong, especially from the north and south, with steep slopes and cliffs. Smoother is the east and the west side that is connecting to "Vrachonas", where there is the main gate of the castle. It is surrounded by a polygonal perimeter wall of 900m high with three rectangular towers strengthen the defence of settlement. At the east there is another secondary gateway that leads to a spring and to the valley. The elaborate masonry, with polygonal stones and massive pillars, places the wall and the settlement at the end of classical period. In Roman years, possibly, in the NW corner of the ancient castle, it was built inside a modern triangular fortification wall. This section of the castle was also used during the Byzantine period.
