Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden a short walk along a bridleway that leads towards Haile mine. The cache container is a magnetic nano.

Gentle walk to get this cache but the path can be muddy at times, especially after rain. The path leads towards the old iron ore mine and throughout the valley, you can still see the remnants of mining work with the mine buildings, ventilation shafts and cable car structures being the most prominent. Haile mine was worked alongside Beckermet & Egremont mines and miners were able to walk between the mines deep underground. The iron ore was transported via cable car to Florence mine and from there, via train to its destination.

A book has been written by the local heritage group (Haile and Wilton: Now and Then) which is a very interesting read if you know where to get a copy (e.g. all the village residents were given a copy a few ago). More info here (visit link)

You can continue walking towards Cold Fell past the old quarry and there is a very good chance that you won't see another soul.
