GNW - Our Bit Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SpikeyMikey: The cache has been destroyed by vandals. But it's had a good run. I'm not in the area anymore so I can't repair it. A pity.

Geocache Description:

This is our part of The Great North Walk (or is it Goodness (k)Nows Where??)

The Great North walk is one of the best known long distance walks in NSW. The track was formally established in 1988 as a bicentennial project and is now managed by the NSW Lands Department.

The walk travels through a variety of environments from public roads, National Parks, State Forests, and private farm land. The GNW runs from Sydney to Newcastle. The main track, 250km (160 mi) in length, runs between the Obelisk in Macquarie Place in Sydney to Queens Wharf Tower in Bicentennial Park in Newcastle. It is generally well signposted and follows a clear and maintained track. There are many ways of exploring the Great North Walk. There are many "side tracks" which conveniently link the track to populated areas along the length of the walk. The walk includes a huge variety of wildlife and scenery.A 25-kilometre (16 mi) section at the northern, Newcastle end, is also known as the Yuelarbah Track. This section runs from the Teralba railway station to the Queens Wharf on Newcastle Harbour. At Kahibah Station, the Great North Walk uses a short section of The Fernleigh Track and passes along the northern side of Glenrock Lagoon to get to the coast.

Our bit of the GNW follows Flaggy Creek for a way, and then a stroll through woodland to join the Fernleigh Track.

The cache is a 1litre Sistema container containing a log, pencil and a few swaps for the Geokids.

Please replace the cache lid carefully to avoid detection by muggles.

Hope you enjoy the walk.
