Geocache Description:

****THIS CACHE IS AT THE POSTED COORDINATES****

There are a couple challenge caches in the area that require 100 finds in a day. But I think this one is quite different.

What I have noticed about those caches is that the people who sign the logs (me included) accomplished the challenge as a group. It made me wonder if you are in a group, can you truly say you found 100 in a day? I don't think anybody can deny that another set of eyes is a big help when searching. That is the basis for this challenge.

So I started to think about how many caches a group would have to find to balance the numbers. I came up with the theory below. Feel free to comment on it, but if you want to debate the theory, do it with somebody else.

In a calender day you have 24 hours. In that time you have two things to do, travel to caches and search for caches. So I will alot 12 hours for each. Having a group shouldn't make you travel faster so that time stays the same. But the searching time is helped with more people. Meaning, of the 12 hours of searching time, if you have a group of two, you gain 50% searching time, or six hours. Six hours is 25% of the full day. Therefore you need 25% more caches for the day...or 125 total finds. Taking it further, if you have three in your group, you gain 66% of that search time...or 8 hours. That is one third of your day...so you need 133 total finds. The chart below shows the number of finds needed for bigger groups.

one in group....100 finds

two in group....125 finds

three in group....133 finds

four in group....137 finds

five in group....140 finds

six or more in group....141 finds

You might notice the chart includes "one in group". If you are brave enough to find 100 caches by yourself, please feel free you sign this cache log too. That is amazing and I will make special note of it on the cache page.

After a lot of planning and a little frustration around rush hour, 5*Terrain and I accomplished this challenge on Sept. 3, 2010. It really was a lot of fun and well worth the effort.

**Any day in your caching career counts. **Please reference your big day in your log or profile.
