This cache is in Case Cemetery in Bristol, NY. It is a TINY cemetery and you will miss it if you blink your eyes. It is located on private property and has been given permission by the owners. Please give a friendly wave if you happen to see them.
In travelling about the world and exploring local cultures, I've always been amazed that we, as humans, hope to be remembered by raising elaborate monuments or markers above our graves. In many cases, the ravages of time and weather obliterate the carvings upon the stones and leave no indication of who lies beneath.
A CASE IN POINT is the Case family, early settlers of Bristol in the 1800's, who were buried in a cemetery that bears their name. Of the 8 recorded burials, only a couple of grave markers are still legible, James Case and his wife Betsy. As to the others, who knows? If you explore further, you'll find nondescript stone markers of at least 5 more.
The cache is a 2 quart cammo-painted plastic jar with a screw lid. The cache is NOT close to any gravestone, so please respect the site and DON'T search around them! Visit the site, grab the cache, say a word of thanks to our forebearers and respectfully depart.
