Circondata dalle stupende montagne del Parco delle Dolomiti Friulane (www.parcodolomitifriulane.it) a 1778 metri di quota immersa in un bosco di larici troveremo la Casera Val Binon, conosciuta in passato anche come Casera Val Menon.
La Malga è gestita nel periodo estivo, da metà giugno a metà settembre, dagli ospitali gestori che curano l'antica Casera e offrono sia ristoro che riposo agli escursionisti.
Potrete quindi evitare di portarvi appresso ulteriore peso nel lungo tragitto di avvicinamento (circa 7 Km, 3 ore ad andatura lenta) e mangiare un buon piatto di pasta in loco, per poi proseguire nelle molteplici escursioni che si diramano da questo luogo.

Per arrivare alla vostra Geo-cache dalla via più breve dovrete salire in auto da Cimolais verso il Rifugio Pordenone – Val Cimoliana (arrivando da Barcis, indicazioni alla vostra destra poco dopo il ponte).
Seguite il tratto asfaltato sino ad arrivare al casello del parco (Ponte Compol); qui nei mesi estivi il transito delle auto è a pagamento, ma vi assicuro che ne vale la pena, quindi proseguite per altri 10 km circa, fino ad arrivare al divieto di transito nei pressi nel Rifugio Pordenone (1163m). Il percorso stradale appena citato in alcuni tratti è sterrato, con un paio di attraversamenti del torrente, tuttavia nel periodo estivo la manutenzione del Parco permette il transito con qualsiasi autovettura, basta prestare un po' d'attenzione e prudenza.
Troverete ampio parcheggio in prossimità del divieto; da qui si imbocca il sentiero CAI 361 seguendo per qualche Km la carrareccia, sorpassate la Casera Meluzzo e proseguite fin dentro il greto del torrente Cimolana.
Vi troverete dinnanzi ad un bivio (sentieri 361-362) dove tenete la sinistra sempre sul sentiero CAI 361, quindi proseguendo sulle grave torrentizie (attenzione ai segnavia ed agli “ometti”) per un altro paio di Km fino ad arrivare alla graziosa Caseruta dei Pecoli (1370m), recentemente ristrutturata.
Continuate imperterriti sul sentiero CAI 361: qui inizierà la vera salita che vi porterà ad attraversare il bosco di larici (segnavia CAI) fino ad uno scollinamento, dove apparirà il comignolo della Casera Val Binon (1778m), meta della nostra gita.
Nel viaggio di ritorno, nei pressi del parcheggio della vettura vi consigliamo una piccola deviazione per visitare il laghetto Meluzzo (sulla sinistra), o in alternativa una sosta al Rifugio Pordenone (sulla destra).
Vista la natura alpina di questa Geo-cache si consiglia di consultare le previsioni del tempo (p.e. www.osmer.fvg.it), in caso di pioggia intensa alcuni tratti risulteranno impraticabili. Usare abbigliamento adatto come scarponi da Trekking e portarsi appresso una felpa più K-way anche d'estate.
Nelle stagioni autunnali, e ancor più in quelle invernali, la Geo-cache potrebbe risultare inaccessibile per l'abbondanza di neve che cade da queste parti. Dal parcheggio dell'autovettura alla Casera ci sono 600 metri di dislivello.

Surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Friuli Dolomites Park (www.parcodolomitifriulane.it) at 1778 meters above sea level, enclosed by a forest of larch trees we find Casera Val Binon, formerly known as Casera Val Menon.
The shelter is managed during the summer from mid June to mid September, by hospitable caretakers who look after the buildings and offer refreshment and rest for walkers.
So you can avoid carrying additional weight in the long journey towards the shelter (about 7 km, 3 hours at slow pace) and eat a good plate of pasta on the spot, then continue on the many excursions that are available from this place.

To get to the Geo-cache by the shortest route you go by car from the town of Cimolais towards Rifugio Pordenone - Val Cimoliana (coming from Barcis, directions to your right just after the bridge).
Follow the paved road until you reach the entrance of the park (Compol Bridge) here in the summer months the transit for cars is not free, but I assure you it's worth the fee, then go another 10 km until you reach the transit prohibition near Rifugio Pordenone (1163m). The road just mentioned in some places is graveled, with a couple of river crossings, but during the summer maintenance permits transit for any car, just have a little of care and caution.
You will find parking near of the road interdiction; from here take path CAI 361 along the unpaved road, pass Casera Meluzzo and follow the Cimolana river bed.
You will find yourself before a fork (paths 361-362), stay left on track CAI 361, then continue along the torrent bed (watch for trail marks and piled rocks) for a couple more km until you arrive at the pretty Caseruta dei Pecoli (1370m), recently restored.
Keep on path CAI 361: at this point begins the real climb that takes you in the forest (CAI trail marks) until you come to a ridge, from where you will see the chimney of Casera Val Binon (1778m), goal of our trip.
On the return trip, near the car park we recommend a short detour to visit the Meluzzo pond (left), or alternatively a stop at Rifugio Pordenone (right).
Given the nature of this Alpine Geo-cache, please consult the weather forecast (e.g. www.osmer.fvg.it), with heavy rain some sections may be impassable. Wear appropriate clothing such as hiking boots and bring along a sweatshirt and a K-way even in summer.
In autumn, and even more in the winter, the Geo-cache may be inaccessible because of the abundance of snow that falls here. From car parking to the Casera there are 600 meters in altitude.
