Geocache Description:

Sapadere Canyon (in Turkisch Kanyony) has been explored since 2007 and to be found 48 km northeast from Alanya and 20 km away from Demirtas. In combination with Sapadere Köyü (mountain village) worth visiting.

Sapadere Canyon

There are several rivers in the neighborhood of Alanya for example de Dimcay and Obacay north west and the Larariver on the other side.
A little bit further, northeast of Alanya You will find the Sedre River which leads at the end to the Sapadere canyon . At the riversides You will find a complete different atmosphere then at the seaside. The nature in this areas is very interesting and the temperature is nicer especially in hot summer days . You can spend your time there, with swimming, picnicking, relaxing and so on.

To visit the Sapedere canyon you just need to pass Demirtas through and a 20km drive over curved and cliffed mountain roads.
The municipality built walking lanes in wonderful Sapadere canyon. Their purpose is to present the natural beauties better for the visitors and extend the tourism in a wider area . At the end of the 600m long walking lane you will find the most attractive point: the waterfall and it is still possible to swim here. You can reach the water with ladders in the canyon and enjoy the refreshing water. We are talking about real refreshment here because the water reaches highest 12°C in the warmest term of the year (0°C sensed). You also will be amazed by the various little waterfalls, rare plants, little animals and birds during your visit.
As a result of the work a very nice restaurant near the river were you only enjoy the sound of the water and the wind through the trees. It is possible to visit the breathtaking Sapadere canyon without climbing equipments.
The entrance fee is 4 TL per person (2010)
In the way up to the canyon you will cross Sapadere Köyü. The water flows during the whole year in Sapadere area and they head it to the villages in dry season
At this village you can find bowers, a silk-weaving workshop, an old water mill, nomadic tents, demonstration stages, and you can visit a traditional village house, a mosque and the school. There is a market place as well.

You can reach Sapadere area easily through Demirtas village( on the D 400 at the direction Mersin) with a car or a motorbike. There are organized trips to the Sapadere village and canyon but you can also try to get there by a dolmus from alanya. (local bus).
This dolmustrip will cost you 5TL ( 2010 ) and it takes at least 1,5 hour but it will be quite an experience, while on this trip it shows you how the local way off live is. Many local citizens use this bus and it also transports goods from shops to and from local houses .
This dolmus starts at the small dolmusstation in Alanya N.36.32.798 E.32.00.093 (departure time: 10.00hr. and mostly drives back at 16.00 hr. Only from half june untill half september!!)
Tell the driver that you will travel back to Alanya and were you will catch the bus because after visiting the canyon it is a nice experience to walk down ( + 3 km from the canyon) and visiting the Sapadere village.
Also from the village Dermitas You may take a dolmus to Sapadere
Log Your visit in Enlgish or German language, so everybody can't fail to read. Take a pencil with you !!!
