THE CACHE
The cache is a small tablock box placed inside a black cammo bag. It contains a log and pencil and a few swaps(not the pencil). The cache is not accessible from the main road.
The tree cover may upset your GPSr, so bear that in mind.
This bridge carries traffic across the Douglas River, which is a tributary of the River Moyola. The Douglas River is fed by its tributaries, the Dunlogan River, the Drumderg River and the Altalacky River which flow from the hills of the Sperrins north and west of Moneyneany.
Until recently it was possible to drive on to the concrete steps which allowed locals to wash their vehicles!
The bridge is also known locally as Dorby's, although research would suggest it should be pronounced Darby's after Darby Gallagher who tenanted 19 acres of land in the townland of Cloane upstream from the bridge from the Drapers Company cicra 1857..... but it could be an Anglicisation of dobhar (pronounced dough-ar) meaning torrents of water. It also appears on the OS Discoverer Map Series 1:50000, Sheet 13 as Boheradaile Bridge, the only meaning I can get for that is the blind road (road of blindness) possibly a reference to the blind corners as you approach it!
The local anglers have made a fish lie and sloped off a part of the river steps to give the returning fish a better chance to complete their journey to spawn.
GETTING THERE
Take the B40 for Moneyneany from the roundabout in Draperstown.
There is room for 2 cars to park off road at the cache site, be careful of oncoming traffic if you are on the bridge, as the traffic can approach the bridge blind to pedestrains.
The cache site is wheelchair accessible but you will need assistance in actually getting the cache to hand.
