I used to live at the coordinates posted. I bought this condo when I moved out of my parents' house. It wasn't in perfect shape, but the price was really good for its condition.
What I didn't expect was the slough of natural disasters I would face while living here. I had only lived there a month when massive snow-melt and a failed sump-pump combined forces to flood my living room. Six months later, while I was in Alaska, my sister called to tell me the torrential flooding† in Rockford had combined with another failed sump-pump to flood my place again!
Over the 3¾ years, the rain or snow-melt flooded my place 5 major times, a burst pipe in a vacant condo upstairs caused severe water damage and mold in my walls, and some faulty plumbing upstairs caused my bathroom sink to back-flow and flood every day for about two months.
And to top it all off, the whole building caught fire on Friday, August 24th, 2012. What happened to my condo?
It burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. ;-)
The whole building was considered a total loss and demolished, ground filled-in, and grass planted. The condo association was, at the time, considering putting a neighborhood playground here, though that may never happen.
† Do you remember the train-tracks on Mulford being washed out and a train exploding?
How to Play: This Wherigo is a simple puzzle that can be easily solved in the field but a pencil and paper may be helpful. After you have solved the puzzle, you will be rewarded with final coordinates to this cache, which is hidden within 2 miles of the posted coordinates. This Wherigo is designed to work in many different States and it is very important that you select the correct state when you first start playing. Instructions are in the cartridge under TASKS in the main screen. Remember to select Illinois to get the correct coordinates for this cache.
Starting Location: This is a play anywhere cartridge. It requires an open square about 200 feet on each side; parking lots, fields, flat skyscraper rooftops... well, maybe not there, on second thought.
Start the cartridge when you are standing in the center and the grid will be created around you. You don't need to go to the posted location to obtain the final coordinates to this cache. Some of you may not feel comfortable being under so many potentially watchful eyes in a neighborhood you're not familiar with. However, the final cache *is* hidden within 2 miles of the posted coordinates.
