Fala Luggie, for the hound of the Lammermuirs this is the jewel in the crown of this short series of caches. A wonderful lowland boggy heath moor with the twin attractions of the luggie and the flow (loch)..
Fala moor is an SSSI (Site of special scientific interest), consequently the cache is not on the moor itself. However there is public access to the moor across a well defined track (which used to be a public road) and when you enter the SSSI there is a sign clearly describing the do’s and don’ts of walking on the moor..
Fala Luggie is a late Medieval tower thought to be built as a watch tower for the still in use Roman road Dere street. On the other side of the moor the is the low lying Fala Flow the dark waters of which are thought to be bottomless.
If you keep on past the SSSI to wards Brothershiels farm the contrast between the SSSI and the commercial farmland is striking. As you approach the farm there is a plaque to the memory of Sub-Lt Owen Burgess Norwood of the Fleet Air Arm who crashed his plane in 1945.
Please take care on the moor, it is very exposed and the weather can change very quickly
- Clean the Augean Stables.
- Journey to the end of the world and bring back a mere half of the cattle of Geryon
- Fetch some golden apples and leave the brazen birds at Stymphalos.
- Bring the other half of the Geryon cattle, no need to clean the stables again.
- The girdle of Hippolyte and three times I say leave the Ceryneian Hind.
- Capture the Cretan Bull and yet again leave the Golden Hind of Artemis.
- Now drive the brazen birds from Stymphalos.
- Lure the Lernean Hydra from its den and slay it.
- Go to Hades and kidnap Cerberus, but not the Cretan Bull.
- Capture the Erymanthian Boar, alive. Beware of Centaurs.
- Now skin the Nemean Lion.
- Bring the mares of Diomedes to Mycenae.
- Wear the Nemean Lion’s skin as a suit of armour.
