Geocache Description:

Don't go to the posted coordinates! There is nothing there that is related to this cache! This position gives nice round numbers but is in the middle of a (private?) paddock.

This is our third cache in a series on the German history of the Geelong area.

The others are:

GC2CMQR Traces of Germantown

GC28P8V Germantown RIP

Dr Alexander Thomson, one of the founders of Geelong, was a major influence in bringing German settlers into the area. The first settlement was established around 1849 in Germantown, today known as Grovedale. Within 10 years, German pioneers established another community south of Geelong. Early German pioneers of this area include Johann Seiffert, Johann Schmidt, Johann Einsporn, Johann Leibhardt and Karl Rau. These Lutheran settlers built their first church, a wattle and daub structure, in 1859 and named it "Waldkirch", meaning "Church in the Woods". It became a community center and the final resting place of the pioneer families. The cemetery is still in use.

Your aim is to locate and visit the historic cemetery of "Waldkirch".

Please be very careful of traffic, as there is no dedicated parking space near the cemetery.

During your visit you have to find the following plaques and take note of the numbers in the order as they appear (left to right, top to bottom) and label the digits A-Y:

  1. Entrance Gate
  2. Church Front
  3. Commemorative Rock Plaque
  4. Commemorative Rock Time Capsule

The final is just a short walk or drive away, near an apple tree:

S38 CK.NWE E144 HX.B(J-O)(Q+R)

You could time your find around the apple season. The tree appears to be on public land and noone seems to claim the fruit. They were delicious when we first scoped out the place. Unfortunately, this year the tree didn't bear any fruit.

We have decided to initially release our caches for Premium Members only before we open them up for all cachers. This way we want to support the geocaching site (geocaching.com), as premium members "put their money where their fun is" and keep it running.
If you want to be among the first to log this cache then please sign up, it's only US$30.00 per year. Otherwise just wait a month or two until we open the cache for everyone.
