When this cache was placed by Captain Nemo, back in January, 2002, reaching it required a rocky scamper across Accotink Creek. In the meantime the Cross County Trail has been completed. Now a wonderful paved path and bridge makes it much easier. The original stepping stones are still nearby though. The first three cache logs succumbed to the elements long ago but the on-line logs chronicle a long, fun-filled history for this traditional cache. Thanks to all the cachers who have helped maintain it over the years.
Park at the CCT trailhead, Americana Park, and walk up the trail to just past the bridge. You’ll turn into the woods on a small game trail or dry creek bed. As with most NoVA trails poison plants can be found here. The CCT carries lots of traffic so a degree of stealth should be exercised. Occasional ongoing trail work can affect CCT access, check the website for details.
