Wildspace Art Trail #1 - Eat for England Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Wildspace

The Wildspace Network is a 4.5 mile walking and cycling route connecting Cramlington and the villages of Seghill and Seaton Delaval. This artwork is one of a series of intriguing new landmarks at key points along the trail. The art trail has been funded through the Lottery and was curated by Inspire, the South East Northumberland Public Art Initiative.

Bob Budd's Eat for England

An oversized spoon, tucking into farm land. Stainless steel spoon with Words (Eat for England) engraved onto spoon handle.

Artist Bob Budd's sculpture 'Eat for England' aims to raise questions about our current lifestyles and attitudes towards the countryside. The title 'Eat for England' reminds us of war time slogans such as 'Dig for Victory' referring to a time when the food trade was severely shortened and virtually all of our food was grown in Britain on Farms, or smallholdings. Nowadays far less of our food is grown in this country, fruit and veg are imported from the other side of the world; so the artwork could also be thought of as a reference to the cry of farmers to 'Buy British.'

Cache is only big enough for a log so please bring your own writing implement.
