The Cows and The Cache
Famous landmark? Infamous landmark? Milton Keynes' concrete cows? Think about it though. If you've never visited Milton Keynes, I bet you have heard about the concrete cows. The cows truly are a famous landmark. Although the originals now reside in Central Milton Keynes ShoppingCentre their replicas still stand proudly in a field in Bancroft, adjacent to the A421.
Originally created in 1978 by Milton Keynes' artist in residence , Liz Leyh, the herd was constructed from a metal frame covered in chicken wire and stuffed with newspaper. They have acquired their black and white colour over the years. Some were originally brown. Like all national icons they have had their share of ridicule. Some have been kidnapped and held to ransom. Some have been posed in, ahem... compromising positions. They have been beheaded and had to be restored and some have had pyjamas painted on them. Or painted like zebras. Poor little cows.
Some people, who have never visited the cows or Milton Keynes, for that matter, cynically associated the concreteness of the cows and presumed that Milton Keynes was a concrete jungle. Nothing is further from the truth. Milton Keynes is 20% green spacewith over 22 million trees! (So many places to stuff a cache).
This cache is now a micro. Please re-hide as found.
