Geocache Description:

This fascinating geological location is fenced off for safety. But there is a nice information sign here.

In 1946 there were several large mounds up to three metres in the area. The mud actually goes down about quite a way. There is a stream of water running under here from a sub-artesian basin on the western side of Bald Hills. The water hits a clay cap which exists over a pocket of gas.

Brisbane City Council later removed the mounds for constructions works. As a consequence of this though a huge amount of mud and gas was released and the land around became unstable. The area was eventually capped with concrete but is still fenced off from the public.

To log this cache please take a picture of yourself or your GPS at the location and also answer the following questions in a message to me. The answers are avaliable off the sign
1. What depth does the mud go down to?
2. What year did Brisbane City Council remove the mounds?
3. Why did they remove the mounds?

You can log the cache as soon as you send me the answers. If there is a problem with the answers I will let you know.
