cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

Skoger old church is a church of stone from the middle ages on the farm Hanaval in Drammen municipality, Buskerud county. Construction year is estimated to be between 1200 and 1220 and the church is thus one of Drammen oldest buildings. The church was in the 1700s a votivkirke . Access to the site is via Fv33

Like many other medieval churches in Norway Skoger ancient church built on a highly visible place in the landscape. When you come running from the south towards Drammen see the church from a distance. Are you heading south after crossing Drammensfjorden and come ashore on Solum Beach, you can see the church from the road after passing Knive and Eik - The Bishop of Oslo, Jens Nilssøn, did on his trip in 1594 .
On the other hand, it is not impossible that this area was a place of pagan worship before Christianity came, and that the church because of that was raised here.
The nearest farm, Hanaval, has provided land to the church, and the farmer's baptism may have been the reason it was built just here. Christianity was well known in this area before the end of the 10th century, and the possibility exists that it stood a wooden church here before the erection of the present church. Some other more mythical explanations of the church building has also been put forward. Anyway, the church has a special feature of itself as it has in common with only one church in Norway. It is built over a water source. The other church is the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The source is probably under the altar, and it has over the centuries caused great problems with rotten board.

The cache is a plastic box in a bag and includes a logbook, pencil, pencil sharpener and some trading items.
