GRFC Cache to Eagle #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RedhedMary: [red] see previous log. It's been there for 2 1/2 years and always appeared to be on cemetery property to me. Never seemed to bother "the neighbors" before. But at the request of the relatives of the previous logger, I will archive. Regretfully, the Cache to Eagle series never was completed anyway. Thanks to all those who searched over these past 2.5 years.

Geocache Description:

The first of twelve Cache to Eagle hides in Gerald R. Ford Council - and the first of three in Five Rivers District.

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that - on average - requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service (based on the national volunteer hour value of $19.51.)

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called "Cache to Eagle" that showcases these special contributions. This particular project, the David Mackey Memorial Platform, was built in the Boston Twp. Cemetery under the leadership of Ethan from Troop 328. It was completed in 2009, and 250 service hours were performed by Ethan and fellow Scouts in support of this project.

The project's waypoints are listed below. Unfortunately, there is another cache very close by, so a cache could not be placed at the actual site of the project. You will find the cache elsewhere in the cemetery. Please respect dawn to dusk searching hours as typical in a Michigan cemetery.

Please take note of the point of the scout law provided on the inside lid, and also on the cache log. When you have all twelve points of the scout law (note they are NOT in order on the caches!) please email RedhedMary (at) aol.com - the first 24 to finish will earn a special commemorative patch!

Watch for the other eleven caches in our council's series, coming soon to an Eagle project near you!

Over its first 100 years, Scouting has provided millions of hours of service to communities across America. Visit Scouting.org/100years to learn more.

BTW, I originally placed this on the project as I'd forgotten about the nearby cache. When I moved it today, two people had signed the log! So third to sign will be the official FTF!
