Located in Seamens Corners Cemetary, Oakley Road, Naples, NY. This is one of the many pioneer/early settler cemetaries in the Finger Lakes.
This cache is located in an old cemetary on a hilltop overlooking the hills of Hi Tor WMA. The view is beautiful. The cemetary holds gravesites dating from the mid 1850's to 1929. The names on the tombstones differ, so this was probably a community or village burial site as opposed to a family cemetary.
When we first found this cemetary, the question that came to mind was "Is this the right place for one?" The ground is uneven, showing signs of heaving and sinking. Many of the tombstones have fallen and many are askew. Find the grave of Eunice Lincoln (1849, age 23). The grave appears to have collapsed, leaving a depression in the ground the size of a coffin! Is the ground here unstable, making this a poor site for a cemetary? You decide!
The original container was muggled and has been replaced with a lock 'n lock. It is hidden away from the tombstones, easy to find, so please treat the area with respect and don't disturb anything.
