This multi-cache will take you around the village of New Abbey showing you some of its highlights. As well as the Abbey, the village boasts a Corn Mill, Shambellie House (The National Museum of Costume), two pubs and a tea room. The cache is a small clip and lock container a little way from the village centre. All the legs of this multi are on pavements or footpaths. Do take care when walking along the narrow main street.
Park at the main car park next to the Abbey which is free. This multi-cache can all be done on foot and should be manageable in under an hour being about a mile in length. Sweetheart Abbey is the 'New' Abbey that gives the village its name. There was already an Abbey at Dundrennan. It has a romantic history being built by Lady Devorgilla to commemorate the death of her husband, John Balliol. There is a small charge to go in, but you can get a very good view of it from the adjacent car park. In 2004, I got married at New Abbey Church and photographs were taken at Sweetheart Abbey.
