"Bridge over Troubled Water" is the title song of Simon & Garfunkel's final album together, released January 26, 1970. Both the song and the album won the Grammy for Song of the Year and Record of the Year in 1971.
Simon started writing Bridge in 1969 while Garfunkel was in Mexico acting in the film Catch 22. Art Garfunkel sang this alone, although he thought Simon should have sung it. Says Simon, "Many times I'm sorry I didn't do it."
Bridge Over Troubled Water was the last album Simon & Garfunkel released before they split up. It is the biggest selling ever for Columbia Records.
Bridge Over Troubled Water was number 47 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
