Geocache Description:

Take a break from the freeway with a series of caches that will show you some of the older routes across the pass.

The road becomes one way toward the pass when you go beyond the campground.

Over the years several routes have crossed Snoqualmie Pass. Trails gave way to roads and roads were replaced with freeways but, in places, the old still remains. Between the Denny Creek exit and the Pass an old road runs up the valley just as it has for many years. Take a few minutes to slow down and enjoy what used to be the latest thing.

First there were trails created by animals and improved by Native Americans who hunted and fished in the high country. The Natives named the lakes on the east side of the pass Keechelus, meaning "few fish" and Kachess, meaning "many fish". They gathered berries, collected basket weaving materials and selected plants for medicinal uses. And they crossed the mountains when trading with their neighbors on the other side. Snoqualmie Pass had a reputation for deep snow for a long distance so other, higher passes to the south also saw plenty of travel.
