Geocache Description:


Following the establishment of Camp Lyon in 1861 near the current Glen Oak Park, Camp Peoria was established in 1862 near to what is now the intersection of Mary and Adams streets. Here volunteers from the Peoria area were prepared for combat in the Civil War. In all, 536 Peoria County men gave their lives for the preservation of the Union. This monument marks the location of the camp and is inscribed with the dates of muster for the newly-trained regiments and their commanding officer. This is a nano in an urban setting. BYOP.
