This cache was inspired by a used book I picked up a few weeks ago
at a yard sale.
After doing a bit of research about the author, I became more
intrigued by this tale. Quest: In Search of the Dragontooth
by Michael Green, which some have called a work of allegorical
fiction, purports to be the facsimile and translation of the
journals of Magnalucius. A Fantasy novel, written in the form of
the long-lost journals of a 16th-century mystic. Hidden in the
heavily illustrated journal are clues to the current hiding place
of the magic Dragontooth. The book is boxed with a map and a
pendant, and appears to be as much a puzzle as a novel.
Historia Et Veritate Unicornus", meaning "On the History
and Truth of the Unicorn". The book tells a strange story. The
author says: He claims he received a letter handwritten in elegant
italic script. The letter signed "Frater Iamblicus", asked Michael
Green, the author, for a meeting and Green, because of his arcane
'60s experiences, did agree to the strange rendezvous. Within a
week it was held. At that time, Green met a thin cowled figure. He
complimented Green on his recent book, the newly published "Unicorn
Notebook". Then the visitor asked him if he would like to see the
"holy beast". Green said yes. The cowled visitor next showed and
interpreted an ancient document for him. The cowled man called it
"The Codex Unicornus--The History and Truth of the Unicorn".
Michael Green then purportedly was told that this was the treasure
of "the Venerable Master Magnalucius, and the treasure of our
Collegium Gnosticum,(college of wisdom) a group of monks
living in remote northern Italy (Near Ravenna, Italy) Green then
was told, probably accurately, that the members of this college,
the gnostics, had gathered across many countries, but were united
by Magnalucius's teachings, the heart of which is the secret
doctrine of the unicorn and the dragon
Quest: In Search of the Dragontooth Somewhere in the sixteenth
centruy England lies the Perilous Dragontooth, unsettling the world
with its ancient malignant powers. The artist and mystic
Magnalucius sets off on a quest to find the powerful tooth and tame
the restless malice- a quest fated to continue into the present
day. This book is an ancient manuscript on the secret history of
the Dragon and the Unicorn that is a must for every seeker of the
beautiful and the wondrous. This book is chocked full of sketches
and drawings in black and white and in color. It ends as a
challenge to the reader; a challenge to find a replica dragon
tooth, that the publishing company set up as a real life treasure
hunt. A mystery still unsolved. The Treasure hunt was abandoned and
the publishing company went out of business. Eventually the book
went out of print and the author mysteriously disappeared.
