A small cache in an area of great beauty.

Goonhilly Downs is a heathland area of great scientific, historic and archaeological interest. Please be aware of the need to nurture this area by keeping to the paths and caring for the environment.
Parking is available at N50 02.828 W005 10.348.
This is a small cache hidden in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Take time to enjoy the tranquillity and marvel at the abundance of flowers and grasses, including the Cornish heath, which has been adopted as the county flower.
If the gorse is in flower – and according to an old saying: ‘When gorse is out of blossom, kissing’s out of fashion’ – you may be able to smell its coconut scent. Apparently, the scent is very strong for some people and others can smell it hardly at all.
Close by, Goonhilly Earth Station, with its satellite dishes, is now closed and it is understood that all of the dishes will be removed, with the exception of Arthur, or Aerial 01, built in 1962 to link to the satellite Telstar and which carried the first transatlantic live television broadcast from the United States. In this age of instant communication it is easy to forget what an exciting event this was! Arthur is now a Grade ll listed building and therefore protected.
You will also be able to see the nearby wind farm which consists of 14 400 kw wind turbines.
