Traces of a Woodland
Bridge
Warning this is NOT a park and grab. The hike from the
starting point to the final will be approximately 1 1/4 miles and
will drop about 350 feet (which of course will have to be climbed
on the return). However, the route to the final will take you
through spectacular terrain and will be especially beautiful in the
fall. The cache is only a few feet off of a mountain bike trail;
however, if you are using a mountain bike you need to take a
different route than the one listed below (consult a park map and a
topographical map). Parking is available at the posted
coordinates.
The cache is not at the posted coordinates. You will need to
follow these directions:
1) From the posted coordinates head north on the trail
approximately 200 feet and take the first trail to the right.
2) Continue on this trail approximately 400 feet and take the trail
to the right.
3) Continue on this trail approximately .2 mile and carefully cross
the road.
4) Continue on the trail approximately 150 feet and take the left
fork.
5) Continue on the trail approximately .1 mile and take the small
trail to the left.
6) Continue on the trail approximately .5 mile. During this section
the trail will head down hill following a small stream. The valley
will widen as you proceed downhill before joining a broader valley
coming in from the right. The trail will turn sharply to the south
and follow this broader valley. Once again the trail will turn
sharply to the right leaving the valley and heading up hill. Leave
the trail at this point. DO NOT cross the bridge, but continue on
the valley floor to the southeast (there will be a narrow track you
can follow).
7) Continue up the valley approximately 450 feet. Along this route
a mountian bike trail will cross your path. You will find it easier
to follow this trail to the right across the small stream.
8) At this point the trail will be wide again and turn sharply to
the right and head up hill. At this point you will also find the
remnants of a bridge that once crossed the stream. The cache is
located on the southeast corner of a pile of timbers that belonged
to this bridge.
9) To return you may retrace your steps, or, follow the mountain
bike trail up hill until it crosses the Pleasant Valley Trail
(recommended choice as the accent is as not as steep). If you take
the recommended route keep a look out for a bench at N43 01.577 W89
50.373 which has spectacular views to the north and
northeast.
There is an unregistered travel bug for the
first to find.
Please do not take the stamp.
You will need to bring your own ink pad if you wish to use the
rubber stamp.
