A two stage cache on the slopes of Caerau Iron Age Hill fort.
CURRENTLY OUT OF ACTION (someone keeps destroying it) Will replace as soon as I can. (posted 26/06/18)
This is a 2 stage cache. The first cache is at the coordinates shown above. This contains clues to the location of the second cache.
Both caches are accessed by a narrow footpath which can be muddy, wet and is steep in places. You can access the footpath from either end (A473 - turn off for Beddau) but is much quicker from Rhiwsaeson Lane. This is part of the Ridgeway walk, so you can do a circular walk (Web search for Rhiwsaeson Circular walk for a map).
The first cache is Quercus, and the name contains a clue to the location of both caches. Within Quercus cache, you will find further prompts on how to find the second cache - Caerau cache.
Hint: You will need to know something about a local ancient battle before heading out.
Among other things, Quercus contains a Gryphaea fossil or "devils toenail" which was found near Aberthaw.
Both caches are close to the public footpath, so you will not need to venture far onto surrounding land. Please respect the area and leave it as you found it. Follow the Countryside Code.
The nearby Iron Age fort is one of many found in the UK and dates from the period 700BC to 43AD.
Note: due to the trees/weather the GPS coordinates for the second cache are only accurate to around 25m.
Since the theft of the second cache a while ago, I have moved it to a better location which means you need to search around the area a bit.
