Geocache Description:

The cache is a small black circular tub hidden on a footpath a short walk from Arthur's Stone near the village of Dorstone. The given co-ordinates are for the parking area by the stone. In order to find the cache you must have a look around Arthur's Stone and work out the clues below.

Arthur's Stone is a Neolithic chambered tomb, over 5,000 years old. Today only the large stones of the inner chamber remain. The tomb has never been excavated but similar examples in this region have been found to contain incomplete skeletal remains of several people, together with flint flakes, arrowheads and pottery. In fact the area is rich in prehistoric archaeology indicating intensive use of the Golden Valley during the Neolithic era. It is unlikely that the monument was built solely as a tomb. Rituals may have taken place here and as it is built in an area of summer pastures, it is possible that Neolithic people gathered at the cairn on a seasonal basis. Like many prehistoric monuments in western England and Wales, the tomb has been linked to King Arthur since before the 13th century. According to legend, it was here that Arthur slew a giant who left the impression of his elbows on one of the stones as he fell. The cache is at: N5C DE 01F W00A B9 67G 1. How many tonnes does the capstone weigh? = AB 2. How many axe and flint finds in the area? = CD 3. Take CD from AB = E 4. How many upright stones are there? = F 5. How many number 1's are there in the English Heritage phone number? Multiply your answer by the number of footpath signs you can see = G
