Saturday: 8.15 a.m to 11.45 a.m
Sunday and Public Holiday: closed
For a period of 100 years, there had been a railway system in
Mauritius. Most tracks have been removed a long time ago. The
coordinates of our cache lead you to the former railway station of
Mapou. From here, trains were running to Port Louis and Curepipe.
The building is quite small. If you walk around it, you will
actually walk on the former platform from where people entered the
trains. Opposite to the platform you will see a lost place like
building. It also belonged to the railway station. Between these
two buildings, the trains were running. You can easily imagine the
tracks. Not far from here (see additional waypoint), you will see
the former watertank. A noticeboard here declares that the station
is earmarked as the site for a future national railway museum. Some
construction work has already begun.
They have missed
the last train
Now, one of the two mentioned buildings serves as an office. It is
quite a small office. Only one or two personnel work in the office.
Apparently, their work is not related to railways. Only elderly
Mauritian residents might remember the former purpose of this
building. Our cache box has been placed inside the office. Just step in,
look around and you cannot miss our large box. Of course, the staff
is aware of the cache. They will not disturbe you - and we are
sure, in turn you will not disturbe them. Since this is an office,
our cache is only available during their office hours (see above).
This is a secure place. You can park your car right in front of the
office.
