Geocache Description:

Use only the trails outside of the actual horse area

Bellevue State Park is an urban park so we were surprised to find wooded trails nearly all around the perimeter. In various spots we have seen a fox, a raccoon, groundhogs and a deer, but usually just squirrels and rabbits. The former DuPont family property included several horse facilities which the state has used to lease for programs including riding lessons. It is rare to see horses on the trails, but maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see some in the fenced area. Still, mind your step; riders do occasionally use the trails. These horses are owned by private individuals and you may not feed them or go into the immediate area. Trails and paths lead you along the outside of the horse paddock area. Absolutely no bushwacking is needed.

Cache is a camouflaged peanut butter jar. From parking, use either trailhead to start and after the find circle around to the other trailhead for variety with no increase in distance. Park fees are in effect Mar 1 to Nov 30. If you don’t have an annual pass, cars with Delaware plates pay $4 and out-of-state pay $8. Park entrance is on Carr Road and is open 8 am to sunset.
