Geocache Description:

The cache is place outside the old grave yard Access cant be restricted PLEASE FOLLOW SIGNS FOR THE GRAVE YARD NOT THE ART GALLARY if you visit the cache after 6:00pm as you will be on private property.

Castle Upton lies to the north of the village. Arts enthusiasts should take time to visit the gallery there which specialises in contemporary Irish painting and sculptural work. Also within the estate grounds is the 4 star Templeton Hotel named after Lady Elizabeth Templeton, an aristocrat and writer who lived in Castle Upton in the 18th century..

Situated in the graveyard of Castle Upton the Templeton family mausoleum is in the care of the National Trust and is open to visitors. Many Templeton viscounts and barons are buried here. The mausoleum was built in the form of a triumphal arch by Robert Adam.
Templepatrick gets its name from the Irish “The stone Church of St Patrick”. Legend has it that while St Patrick was on mission in Ireland in 5th Century AD he came to this area and baptised converts in the ancient holy well. He then founded a church in the centre of the grave yard where the mausoleum now stands .in the last century blasting was carried out and this caused the well to dry up. However within a few days the quarry was flood and all the equipment was lost
