Holman Island Frosty Foot Breakfast Event Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

El Nimrod: Mother Nature 1, Geocachers 0! Weather got the best of us this year, but thanks to those brave (foolish?) souls who made it out and improvised (talk about expanding the search zone!). We'll try the ice walk again next year.

Geocache Description:

Date: 6 February 2011 (Sunday)

Time: 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. (The Linkletter, Summerside) & 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Lower Bedeque)

Place: Summerside & Lower Bedeque, PEI

Come out for a hearty breakfast get together with fellow Island cachers before strapping on the snowshoes or cross-country skis and embarking on a morning of outdooring as we explore nearby Holman Island.

Come "shoot the waffle", or better yet, eat one, at The Linkletter. Not hungry, then toss back a coffee or two! Swap stories (lies!), trade trackables, and learn about our "2011 Island Icon Cache Challenge" and the "Confederation Trail Power Series" coming this summer.

Door prize for the cacher bringing the trackable with the most mileage; the trackable furthest from "home"; and the cacher attending his/her first geoevent!

Afterwards, why not migrate to Lower Bedeque as we slip/slide over to Holman Island.

Holman Island -- so close, yet so far away!
Is winter crampin' your caching and keeping you indoors? Well, here's a chance to get some fresh air, exercise, lose some of those post-holiday pounds, and enjoy some camraderie all at the same time!

We'll be getting together to do an ice walk/snowshoe/cross-country ski over to Summerside's Holman Island. Never been there? -- Here's your chance. Hot chocolate and "Bailey's Coffee" provided.

This is your chance to explore Holman Island without having to swim, paddle, or do battle with monstrous mosquitos and thorns next summer. Throw in the opportunity to do it with other Island cachers and kiss the winter blahs g'bye.

The fun starts at 9:30 a.m. at Departure Point for a walk across the ice to Holman Island (1.5 km across, 3 km return) and a jaunt around the island.

NOTE:

(POSTED CACHE ATTRIBUTES PERTAIN TO THE ICE WALK)

Depending on snow/road conditions, there may be an additional 2-km round trip hike from parking to the departure point to Holman's Island

Not up for a lot of "ice-time"? Then do what feels right for you, and walk, snowshoe or ski just a little bit -- it's not the Olympics!

CAUTION:

Be advised that a moderate level of fitness will be required to get over and around the island, particularly if there's a lot of snow or wind. Dress accordingly and bring hot liquids to drink. There are no trails and some fairly heavy bushwhacking is required to get around if you want to explore the Island, so snowshoes and/or water-proof footwear is recommended.

The Ice Walk is not suitable for most children due to the distance, temperature and terrain.

Afterwards, if you've still got the time and energy, why not attend the third annual "2011 'Red Snirt' Festival Winter Cache Event" (GC2G0MA) later today in Clinton?
