Ekely er et tidligere gartneri. Edvard Munch kjøpte eiendommen Ekely i 1916 og bodde her frem til sin død i 1944. Eiendommen ble kjøpt av Oslo kommune som lot OBOS oppføre 44 kunstnerboliger her. Boligene er forbeholdt bildende kunstnere og kan ikke gå i arv. Blant nåværende og tidligere beboere kan nevnes Finn Fåborg, Anne Raknes, Nils Aas, Thorbjørn Egner, Franz Widerberg, Guy Krohg og Sossen Krohg. Kunstnerboligene ble tegnet av arkitekten Jens Selmer. Munchs villa ble revet i 1960 for å anlegge parkeringsplass for besøkende til utstillinger i Munchs vinteratelier. Munchs atelier er tegnet av Henrik Bull, og bygget er fra 1923. Atelieret ble lenge brukt som restaureringsverksted og lager for kunstproduksjonen han hadde testamentert til kommunen. Samlingen er senere flyttet til Munch-museet på Tøyen.I dag blir atelieret brukt som arbeidssted for kunstnere.
I tråd med områdets kunstneriske ånd så inneholder cachen en egen kunstloggbok med godt tegnepapir og et komplett tegnesett. De som besøker cachen bes om å låne dette settet og tegne seg inn i kunstloggen om de så ønsker. Bildene fra loggen vil periodevis bli scannet og lagt opp som vedlegg til denne cachebeskrivelsen. Det er mye kreativitet blandt geocachere og det er fint å vise frem dette.

Ekely is a former plant nursery. Edvard Munch bought the Ekely property in 1916 and lived here until his death in 1944. The property was purchased by the City of Oslo which let OBOS construct 44 artist residences here. The houses are reserved for visual artists and can not be inherited. Among current and former residents include Finn Faaborg, Anne Raknes, Nils Aas, Thorbjørn Egner, Franz Widerberg, Guy Krogh and Sossen Krogh. The townhouses were designed by architect Jens Selmer. Munch's house was demolished in 1960 to construct a parking lot for visitors to exhibitions in Munch's winter studio. Munch's studio was designed by Henrik Bull, and the building is from 1923. The studio was long used as restoration workshop and warehouse for the production of art he had bequeathed to the municipality. The collection was later moved to the Munch Museum on Tøyen.I Today, the studio is used as a workplace for artists.
In accordance with the artistic spirit of this area, the cache contains a separate art logbook with good drawing paper and a complete drawing kit. Visitors are encouraged to borrow the art logbook and drawing kit to create their drawings in the art log if they wish. The art logbook will perodically be scanned and images of new drawings will be added to the cache description. There is a lot of creativity among geocachers and it is nice to showcase this.
