Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coords, they are just for a nice scenic spot along the way.

Mutiny on the Bounty 1 – The Bounty & Mutiny on the Bounty 2 – Stores (click on names to go to these caches) outline the story of the Bounty, the mutiny and aftermath that followed. They must be visited to solve this cache.

It has been long thought that the main reason for the mutiny was that Fletcher Tiedysmileys and his mutineers were so taken with the idyllic lifestyle of living in the mangroves that they did not want to leave the area.
What the reports have failed to mention is that on the way to Port Gawler they came across a privateer with a cache of treasure which they promptly confiscated. Fearing there would be little given to them as prize for this catch, they decided to hide this treasure to collect at a later time, drawing a map to the hiding spot.
Just before Bligh and his crew were set adrift in the ship’s launch, Ledward, the surgeon’s mate, snuck into the captian’s cabin and tried to steal the map to the treasure. He was only able to get half of the map out of the container before he heard someone coming and so ripped that half off and escaped out of the window. It is believed that he hid his half of the map amongst the stores the castaways were given to take away with them.

And so it was that half of the map went with Bligh and his castaways, while the other half remained on the Bounty.

Following in the path of a recent expedition, you can now visit both the Bounty and Stores sites and perhaps find both halves of this treasure map.

While these waterways look navigable under a wide variety of tidal conditions, the recent expedition traversed these waterways in a middle tide (approx 1.4m) which worked well and could still have been higher or a bit lower. Click on this link to see what the tides are doing at nearby St Kilda
