Geocache Description:

This is the usual magnetic key box located in the historic Confederate Cemetery in Lewisburg WV. The box contains only a log. BYOP

The Battle
of Lewisburg VA
(WV was not yet a separate state) was fought on May 23rd 1862. The Confederate dead (unidentified) were placed in a cross shaped common grave. The cache is located in one corner of the cemetery. To hear a recording of an actual Civil War Vet giving a real rebel yell go to this YouTube page. The yell occurs at about 2:50 into the piece and an electronically expanded version, simulating a small company of soldiers occurs at 3:05. The cemetery is open daily 9:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Tayhanstick has asked why coins are being placed on gravestones. It is my belief that this is to echo an ancient (think the Mideast 2000yrs ago) custom. When travelers came across a grave site, they would place a small stone on the site to say "I was here", and "someone still cares". It is my belief that it is this custom that is being followed.

Congrats to WVUgeo for the "rapid response" FTF!!
