Barnstone Ponds 2 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

northking: Please note that this cache is to be archived. The container will be collected in within the next 4 - 6 weeks.

There was a time when placing geocaches was an enjoyable part of the hobby. Reading the logs, and finders generally taking the time to appreciate the location/description/time and expense and commitment from the Cache Owner that made placing caches worthwhile.

Sadly this is no longer the situation, and as this is supposed to be an enjoyable pastime I have decided to withdraw all of my active geocaches and hope that this will allow me to continue to enjoy the hobby, and maybe cause some people to re-consider their geocaching activities and appreciate the fact that a cache owner has gone to some effort to have a cache published, and that this effort could be acknowledged.

There are some caches that I will consider transferring to another player, should they get in touch, but the others will be removed to allow others to either replace or heave a sigh of relief and move on.

Thanks to all of the players that have visited these caches and had the good grace to log thoughtfully and also award favourite points (feel free to withdraw them after archiving). To those that feel that a cache merits a cut n paste log or just one word then you have contributed to this action.

Geocache Description:

Small pot, please ensure lid snaps on properly. Log book and pencil in cache. At side of public footpath

Placed on public footpath near to stile. An easy cache, which could be a cache n grab. There is a wooden token in the cache for FTF, bring this token with you to a meeting hosted by Northking and you will receive a prize.

The cache is close to, but on the opposite side of the pond to Barnstone Ponds (formerly Nuts in Notts number 1) and there is a nice route from one to the other along the metalled road which takes you past fields full of sheep and chickens and a farm house where fresh eggs are sold. There are a number of other buildings utilising the former airbase, these include an occasional cafe/bar a bowling green and a cement factory. The road is marked 'private' but appears on OS maps to be a public bridlepath and is widely used for access to the cafe.
