The location is the same as last year, a very nice recreational facility located behind the Dumfries-Triangle Fire Station on Rte.1 just north of the main gate to the Quantico Marine Base. It’s ours from 9 AM till whenever we care to leave. It features a covered pavilion, a built-in grill stocked with propane, children’s play area, volleyball and basketball courts, electricity, a sound system, and indoor plumbing. Kids and pets are welcome, and the entire area is fenced in so you don’t have to worry about them wandering off.
The listed coordinates are for the parking area. You need to enter from Old Triangle Road, which runs behind the fire station and parallel to Rte. 1. From the south, get off 95 at exit 150, Triangle/Quantico and bear right on the ramp. Go through the intersection at Rte. 1 as if you’re heading on to the base, and make the very next left onto Fuller Heights Rd. Then take the next left onto Old Triangle. The entrance will be on your left about a mile north. From the north, take exit 152A, Rte. 234 towards Dumfries. Turn right onto Rte. 1, left on Graham Park Rd, and right onto Old Triangle. Entrance will be on the right. A sign will be placed there to make it easier for you to find us.
We’d love to see lots of old and new friends there, including members of other Geocaching clubs, visiting geocachers, and any friends or family you care to bring. You may arrive any time after 9 AM, and lunch will be served around noon. Meats for grilling, condiments, plates, eating utensils, and cups will be provided. Please bring along a dish to share…desserts, veggies, salads, snacks and such…and your beverage of choice. When logging you *Will Attend* note, let us know what you’ll be bringing so we can keep track.
There will be food, games, door prizes, music, and no doubt, remarks from our Head Despot, the geocacher formerly known as Bozo. You can even get in some caching if you like. A bookmark list of area caches has been posted to this page. Keep checking this listing for updates.
This event is rain or shine. The main pavillion is well sheltered, so we can still have lunch and a good time no matter what Mother Nature sends our way.
See ya’ there.
