Annetuissa koordinaateissa Alakiventiellä sijaitsi kaatopaikka 1950- ja 60-luvuilla. 70-luvulla paikalle kaavoitettiin ja rakennettiin asuinalue sekä päiväkoti. Maaperätutkimukset kuitenkin tehtiin ilmeisen huonosti... 80-luvulla ja 90-luvuilla maan havaittiin painuvan. Marraskuussa vuonna 1998 asunto-osakeyhtiö Alakiventie 8:n edustalla tehtiin viemäritöitä, sillä putket olivat taas rikkoutuneet maan painuessa. Töiden yhteydessä tehdystä kuopasta alkoi kuitenkin nousta kamala löyhkä. Maaperässä todettiin muun muassa 20-200 kertaa ohjearvot ylittäviä määriä myrkyllistä syanidia sekä 150-kertaisesti ohjearvot ylittäviä määriä syöpää aiheuttavia polyaromaattisia hiilivetyjä eli PAH-yhdisteitä. Kesäkuussa 1999 kaupunki antoi tiedotteen, jonka mukaan alueen asukkaille ei ole todettu aiheutuneen terveyshaittoja, mutta saastuneella alueella sijaitsevat talot kuitenkin puretaan ja alue kunnostetaan puistoksi.

There used to be a landfill site in the given coordinates in the 1950s and 60s. In the 70s the area was zoned for residential use and even a day care center was built there. However, the soil examinations were apparently conducted sloppily... In the 80s and 90s the ground was found to sink. In November 1998 the housing co-operative Alakiventie 8 was repairing their sewer pipes as the sinking of the soil had broken them again. A hole was made into the ground and the workers were greeted with a horrible stench. They investigated the soil in the area and found out that the levels of several toxic substances, such as cyanide and poly-aromatic hydrocarbons, exceeded the acceptable levels by factors of 20 to 200. In June 1999 the city issued a bulletin according to which no health problems were found to have been caused by the contaminated soil but that they would still demolish the buildings, clean the area and build a park.
