Exit at the T&A Travel Plaza and head south of I 80 then west for less than a mile then over the cattle guard heading south on 207. Pass through the wind towers and Bridger Butte on the left. Then on the left you will see the smaller Sugar Loaf butte and when it is directly on your left, you will see a rock cairn and a 2 track road angling off at 110 degrees. Park and walk if you have a low clearance vehicle or drive 200 yards to a small fenced enclosure. This is "Brigham's Arrow.
The Bigelow Bench road is a very well maintained dirt road due to recent traffic for the new wind farm. This site was discovered in the 1990's by Lamar Barrett, an expert on the Mormon Trail. The Vanguard Company, including President Brigham Young, climbed up the bench from Fort Bridger and they built this rock arrow to indicate to subsequent parties that they should leave the more establised trail for a few miles due to better forrage and terrain. Subsequent parties actually went North of Bridger Butte for the most part.
This is an unprotected area other than the fence around the arrow which excludes livestock. Please respect it, pick up any litter, and Leave no trace of your visit. Immagine what these pioneers went through traveling here and appreciate their willingness to undergo hardships for their committment to their faith. After the climb up the bench, they would face their most difficult descent so far on the trail at "gravel hill" in 2 miles. Enjoy the wide open sage covered landscape.
The cache orriginally contains a Rotary 'Service above self" coin, log and pen/pencil, 2005 national jambo Elks patch, a Jambo Leave No Trace hang tag, a Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show card, a Rubber chicken key chain, a Jake the Dozer TB, Action Ctr C Buckskin Games Jambo patch, a bubble head turtle and a SME Jambo patch. The cache is in a quart size bucket in camo. Permissions to place and search has been obtained.
