Waupaca Woods? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

majday: A couple of people had mentioned they thought the coordinates were off, so I went to take a look. Sure enough, they were off by about 300'. Unfortunately, the cache has also gone missing for the 3rd or 4th time. Apparently, this wasn't meant to be. :(

Thanks to everyone who found or attempted to find this cache! We hope you enjoyed the short walk through Waupaca Woods!

Geocache Description:

On a part of the River Ridge Highway 22 Trail, a very short hike, but steep terrain at the start. The trail head is easy to miss. Not a long hike, and at the top of the trail, a few muggle homes. Please take care in replacing the cache! The cache is a black bison tube containing a log. Bring your own writing stick.

When we moved to Waupaca about 20 years ago I remember going to the Waupaca Woods Mall and wondering, "Where are the woods?" Shortly after we began geocaching I noticed a tiny little sign for the River Ridge Trail in an unlikely spot, and wondered about putting a cache there (Update 6-29-15: the River Ridge Trail sign is no longer visible, and must have been broken off. The trail head is about 30 feet from the curve in the road where there are two large arrows showing that the road curves. There are two wooden split-rail fences marking the entrance). MGH and I decided that this would be a good spot to explore. I think we found where some of the Waupaca Woods are!

We replaced the cache after it went missing for the second time. It is still within view of the original geobeacon, but in a spot less likely to be muggled, and is a bit of a beacon in its own right. Be aware that your GPS could be a bit wonky in among the trees.

For the FTF -- a stainless steel container from Luray Caverns, Virginia. We visited the caverns while in Washington, D.C. this summer.

Congrats to abron132 for being the FTF! And amazingly on the same day we placed it...at 10:00 at night....in the dark....with a flashlight....on the steep trail! WOW!!! You're right, we do need some sort of a 12-step support group for geocaching! :)
