Geocache Description:

In the summer of 1989 a group of students from across BC made their home at Snass Creek, in the parking lot of the Cascade Rec area, while clearing the historic Dewdney Trail and the Skagit Bluffs Trail. This was Base Camp and from here we worked on the Skagit Bluffs Trail. The Dewdney trail was cleared up to Paradise Valley and we camped in 3 mobile camps along the Dewdney while we worked on it. Supplies were carried up to these camps by horses from MPR stables. It was a great summer and some of us are still in contact with one another. This cache series is a tribute to that summer. I hope a few of the Rangers gather these caches as a trip down memory lane.

On Saturday's the Junior Rangers had the day off from trail clearing to hike or canoe in Manning Park.  One Saturday the Windy Joe Hike was our chosen activity.  For whatever reason, half of us jammed out of the hike about half way up to the top- near the cache location.  I guess when you are 15 peer pressure and laziness are a powerful force.  When I saw that Fuzz Heads had placed a cache at the top of Windy Joe, Celebrating 60, I knew I had to go get the cache and complete the hike - even if it was 21 years late.   I also wanted to check out the fire tower because both of my grandpa's had worked in fire towers when they were young.

The Windy Joe hike is a 16 km linear hike that will take 4 - 6 hours to complete.  We placed the cache in a location that hopefully will be accessible to snowshoe cachers this winter.  Please rehide the cache in the same place so that the winter cachers will be able to find it.  FTF is a set of new tb tags.  This is a moderate hike, it took us about 2 hours to get to the top, the cache is somewhere around the 4 km mark. TH for the hike starts just after the bridge, on the road to the Manning Park ski hill, on the left hand side.
