Cheung Chau is a fascinating island with many areas to explore all day long. Allow yourself time to discover as well as sample many seafood delicacies that this fascinating island offers. This cache is located nearby the Cheung Po Tsai Cave which is said to contain the famous pirate's treasures.
The cache is located about 20m off the concrete path between the Cheung Po Tsai Cave and the Reclining Rock. Having a well marked and well signed path should make the journey an easy affair. There is a small amount of climbing required but as can be seen from the picture, it should be fairly straight forward.
Cheung Chau can be reached by regular ferries from Central pier #5. From the Cheung Chau main ferry pier, the GZ is a 25 minute walk; for an easier day, there are regular Sampans from the smaller ferry pier that will take you to Sai Wan for a much shorter walk. If you wish to enter the cave, please bring a good torch light.
When placing the cache, we were only able to get 15m accuracy on the GPS due to the overhead boulders, therefore I'm proving more precise instructions on how to get to the GZ and the cache.
From SaiWan, follow the signs toward the pavillion and then to the Tin Hau temple. Passing the temple grounds, follow the signs that lead toward the cave. You will find a set of stairs to the left that will lead to the Reclining Rock. While going down the steps, there will be a point where you will need to duck down to pass the boulders that will be above you. The cache is named "under cover" due to this spot. At this point, you will notice a cleared area on the left hand side. Climb onto this clearing and keep eyes open for a big crevice next to the boulder on the on the right side which is now covered and surrounded by rocks; definitely not a natural formation. Geosense will lead you there. The cache is inside this crevice.
We took the time to remove all garbage from this clearing area. If you encounter any discarded garbage, CITO would be appreciated.
After replacing the cache, you can continue on towards the reclining rock and beyond which offer stunning views of South China Sea and continuing forward will lead you Pak Tso Wan / Italian beach. From here, its an easy stroll back to Sai Wan or you may continue to head around the island and explore even further.
