Patches of Gold Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

AussiePuschaks: Cache appears to have gone AWOL and I am unable to maintain it in a timely fashion. Best that I allow this location to be available to another cacher. Thanks for all the posts and likes over the years.

Geocache Description:

Located on the southern bank of the Ovens River, and the eastern most end of the popular Canyon Walk in Bright, this cache is a tribute to the gold miners who diverted the rivers, creeks and gullies around the area in search of the elusive gold.

We come down here regularly to swim with the geokids during the warmer months, and on a few occasions now, have encountered gold hunters still trying their luck. In fact during one visit they found quite a few small flakes - enough they claim, to justify their searching for it!

Inside this cache we have started a supply of cloth patches from Australia, Canberra and Bright. We'd like to exchange these for cloth patches that you may have from your home town/s, travels or favourite locations.

You can access this cache with a short (less than 30 metre) walk from the geomobile by driving down Ashwood Avenue (turn off the main Highway at the tourist information rotunda) or you can undertake the more scenic Canyon Walk, commencing anywhere along the way, but doing a circuit from the centre of Bright, down both sides of the Ovens River, crossing over bridges along the way.

Cycling is not permitted on the Canyon Walk, but you can take the bike path (part of the Murray to the Mountains bike trail) from the centre of town along the old rail line to the bridge that overlooks the cache location.

Muggles are likely to abound particularly during summer. Watch not only the walk, but the bridge above and muggles floating down the river on lilos, inner tubes and small boats. Horse riders may also come down to give their horses a wash in the river here!! As a result we've upped the difficulty rating slightly.

Please ensure that the container is well camouflaged again after you have signed the log. Tree cover may result in your GPS moving around a bit at GZ. The hint provides detailed info if in doubt.
