The Looshtauk was one of several ships quarantined on Middle Island in Miramichi, New Brunswick in the mid-1800s. As Irish immigrants fled their homeland during the Potato Famine, many ships like The Looshtauk sailed across the Atlantic in search of a better home.
Miramichi Landings tells the stories of the island's troubled past through a series of interpretive panels dotting the island and will be continuing to preserve and present this heritage in years to come.
A replica lighthouse now stands on the eastern tip of Middle Island, a short distance from the Celtic Cross, a monument commemorating the hundreds of lives lost during the years of Irish immigration.
Cache is a small camo’d Lock N Lock. Original contents are: logbook, pencil, pencil sharpener, and ‘muggle card’ (please leave these items in the cache). Original tradable items include: wooden toy block, green die, yellow toy frog, “Animal Snap” card game, and The Looshtauk Travel Bug.
