Follow the Juniper Traditional Cache

My Father always told me that if I got lost in the woods to follow the Juniper.
My understanding of this is that in our area the wind would bend the Juniper trees in an easterly direction. Therefore if you followed the Juniper you would always go in the same direction and would eventually get out of the woods and not go around in circles.
I never had the occasion to try this out but I guess it makes sense.
