This is the No 6 in a series of 7 caches in a 4 mile circular walk taking in Twmbarlwm mountain Risca. Liam, my grandson, Meg the dog and myself walk this route on a regular basis and although steep in parts is worth it for the views from Twmbarlwm If completing this as a circular walk as part of the Liam & Meg Circular series, parking is available at 51°37.040'N, 3°06.399'W.
On December 1st 1860 there was an explosion at the Black Vein Colliery, Risca which killed 142 men and boys. A number of these people were buried in this small cemetery overlooking the area where the pit once stood. If visiting the cemetery, please stick to the footpath and ensure all gates are closed. The cache is just outside the cemetery boundary walls. AS LIAM & MEG CIRCULAR #5 - DEGIS'S FARM HAS BEEN ARCHIVED THIS IS NOT NOW ON THE CIRCULAR ROUTE BUT MORE OF AN OFFSHOOT FROM LIAM & MEG CIRCULAR #4 TO #7. ACCESS THIS ALONG THE CANAL RATHER THAN THROUGH THE TREE FELLING AREA.
