This is a fun and easy cache near Charlottesville and I-64. While you are there, take time to explore the Virginia DMME Division of Geology and Mineral Resource's rock garden. You will sometimes find free rock and mineral samples in this cache!
In a tucked away corner of Fontaine Research Park, at the Virginia Department of Forestry building, the DMME Division of Geology and Mineral Resources maintains a rock garden featuring igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks from around the state. This awesome collection even includes petrified logs! The cache is a clear plastic box in a tucked away location with a log book and room for small items. The cache sometimes contains free rock and mineral samples! The site is easily accessed by a nearby parking lot. This is a public building that is off limits after dark.
