Geocache Description:


Snake Island and Present Island are 2 of "30,000" islands in Georgian Bay. Snake Island is devoid of human activity but is covered with vegetation as large as trees. It is located NE of Midland Point and directly in a straight line from Midland Point Rd. The island is about 610m long by 2980 inches wide and about 1m higher in elevation than Severn Sound (175m ASL). Present Island is much larger (1.07 km N-S vs. 0.36 km E-W, 179m ASL) and is home to around 26 seasonal dwellings. It got its name from the place where the British distributed gifts to native people in exchange for purchase of land in nearby Penetanguishene to build a naval base.
The actual cache is NOT located at the posted co-ordinates. They refer to the centre of Snake Island. You must determine the actual co-ordinates of the real cache by solving the following fictitious conundrum:

"Two avid cachers, LouWiddy and JoeBitorka, were searching for treasure on Snake Island. They started simultaneously at opposite ends (north and south respectively) of the island exactly 3 furlongs apart. Their cache was hidden at the mid-point of a straight trail between them. Lou approached the cache at an average speed of 5.4864 km/hr while Joe maintained a mean velocity of 831.6 kilofathoms/fortnight along the trail. In order to determine the co-ordinates of the real cache on the mainland, you must first conclude which of the two cachers arrived at GZ first and how much earlier (in seconds) than the other. Search time for the island cache is assumed to be negligible. Co-ordinates of the real cache are determined as:

N44 47.xxx W079 52.yyy

where xxx is the absolute value of the difference between 189 and 3 times the number of seconds calculated above, and where yyy = 386 if Joe arrived first or 238 if Lou arrived first."
