Stafford's Lost Cemetery

William Stafford was a scout for Austin's "Old Three Hundred" - the earliest settlers in Texas. He built a plantation on his land grant and the settlement around it became the town of Stafford Point.

During the Texas Revolution, Santa Anna camped here while pursuing General Houston and his troops on the way to San Jacinto and burned the plantation down. It was rebuilt after the war and the town around it later became Stafford, TX.

This field is the site of the original plantation cemetery. A single marker has been established for the family known to be buried in this, one of the oldest cemeteries in Texas.
