Geocache Description:

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that — on average — requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service.

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called "Cache to Eagle" that showcases these special contributions. Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve is another place where there are several Eagle Scout Projects, all great contributions to the community. Here are some of them.
  • The Shelter for the Nigerian Dwarf Goats was the project of Eagle Scout Hunter M. from Troop 96 of Wantagh. He now works at the park!
  • The Canoe Racks were built for the project of Eagle Scout Charles H. from Troop 189 of Wantagh.
  • The Touch Tank was built for the Eagle Project of Patrick T. from Troop 362 of East Meadow. (Now removed)
  • The Gazebo over the Touch Tank was installed for the project of Eagle Scout Vincent L. from Troop 123 of North Merrick. (Now removed)
  • The Butterfly Garden was the Eagle Scout Project of Stephen V. from Troop 225 of Merrick.
  • The Bench by the park entrance was installed as the Eagle Scout Project of Paul L. of Merrick. (Now Removed)
  • The Shelter by the fishing pier was the Eagle Scout Project of Tom R. of Merrick. He now works at the park!
  • The fences around the goat shelter were the Eagle Scout Project of Alex S. from Troop 189 of Wantagh. (Now Removed)
  • New tops for the railings and new benches on the boardwalk were the Eagle Scout Project of Robert M. from Troop 96 of Wantagh.
Some other projects include Owl boxes, Kestral boxes & Swallow birdhouses, a safety rail at the kayak launch and a fence by the entrance. There are probably more projects! There's a posted list at the kiosk entrance to the trails.

You are looking for a hidden lock-it container that's just off the trail. Few thorns here but long pants suggested. Ticks will be a problem in the warmer months. Please rehide well. I didn't see any poison ivy, but be careful anyway!
The park is open from 7am to dusk in the Winter, 7 to 7:30 in the Summer. Please respect the park hours!

Over its first 100 years, Scouting has provided millions of hours of service to communities across America. For our 100th Anniversary, we’re celebrating that legacy with special service opportunities through "A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference." You can join us, and even earn a commemorative patch! Visit Scouting.org/100years to learn more.

THIS IS OPTIONAL!
IT’S OPEN TO ALL GEOCACHERS –NOT JUST SCOUTS!
This is just one of twelve caches in the "Cache to Eagle" series placed by the Theodore Roosevelt Council. Each cache contains a keyword. Write down the keyword on the inside cover of the log book. When you have the keywords from all twelve "TRC, Cache to Eagle" caches, send an email to get your patch. While supplies last.
