Geocache Description:

The ninth in the "Curse of the FTF (Wellington)" series of caches.

The rules are really simple ...

Guidelines for this Series:

  1. FTF'er should place the next cache in the series (in this case, Curse of the FTF #10 (Wellington) .... ) within 1 month. Please note only the FTF'er should place the next cache and not every person that finds the cache.
  2. You can only be the FTF for this series once, and no joint FTFs will be accepted on these caches. This spreads the FTF love around, and gives others a chance to play along. (This is at least until everyone who wants to has had ago at FTF).
  3. Cache can be any size or type (Puzzle, Multi, Trad, etc.), but I do ask that you set it within the Greater Wellington Area (Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wainuiomata, and Kapiti Coast up to Waikanae), and if it is a puzzle then it cannot be too hard, as it should be easy enough for everyone to find.
  4. You must include this set of guidelines in your listing for the series. I will be happy to answer any questions concerning the guidelines or about the placing of caches to those who have not placed a cache before.

There is no requirement besides the standard signing of the cache log to prevent you from logging this cache when found. Everyone should log their find, and hopefully the FTF person will play along and place another cache, but it is in no way a requirement for logging your find. But if you don't intend to carry on the series, please do not claim the FTF, and leave it for someone else.

Instructions for this cache:

The published co-ordinates take you to a memorial in Te Puna Urupa, a Maori cemetery.

You need to find:
  • a date (DDMMYYYY)
  • the name of the person commemorated (P, 3 words)
  • the name of the tribe of which he was chief (Q)
  • who erected the memorial (R, 3 words)

All this information is on the memorial.

The cache, which is a small cliptop container, can be found a few hundred metres away at
S 41°13.ABC E 174°52.DEF
where
A = DD
B = # letters in Q
C = # of letters in first word of R
D = Y1 (first digit of year) + Y4 (fourth digit of year)
E= # letters in P - Y2 (second digit of year)
F = # letters in third word of P

CHECKSUM(A:F) = 26

Note: parking in the area is at a premium during business hours and there are very busy roads in the vicinity.

Remember - No joint FTFs accepted on these caches!!
